The Comparison of Characters in Reference to Beowulf Essays
The Comparison of Characters in Reference to Beowulf Essays The Comparison of Characters in Reference to Beowulf Paper The Comparison of Characters in Reference to Beowulf Paper Be that as it may, I locate this false, the characters In Beowulf are progressively unique and have more noteworthy virtue when thoroughly analyzed to characters In most cutting edge books. At the point when we think about the epic Beowulf the principal thing that strikes a chord Is simply the shopping center character of the story Beowulf himself. All through the story he Is by a wide margin the most unique character and we see a greater amount of his Inner self than any other individual In the story. We witness Beowulf create from an upstart youngster Into a savvy, considerate, old ruler. For instance, we watch this change for the most part in the explanation that he battles: when he was youthful Beowulf battled for himself, for self greatness, toward the finish of the epic (in the battle with the winged serpent) we see that he battles for his kin sacrificially and without care for his own security. In his more youthful days Beowulf battled Greened without weapons so the battle would be on reasonable standing, however when we view Beowulf when he is more established, he doesn't abandon any bit of leeway when he sets himself in opposition to the mythical beast, it is this special change that enlightens us so much concerning how he feels about the monster as connected to how he felt of Greened when they battled. In that fight Beowulf needed to substantiate himself, so he didn't utilize weapons so the battle would be on standing; on the other hand, in the fight with the monster he was securing his kin so he utilized every one of his weapons and abilities to overcome the brute, he needed to guarantee cap he would not lose at any expense. While searching for a cutting edge novel to stand out from Beowulf I found a colossal arrangement of books composed by R. A. Salvatore, this arrangement is known as the Forgotten Realms arrangement and has one fundamental character all through the whole arrangement. This character is named Drizzle, and subsequent to perusing a large number of these books I can offer a legitimate input about the arrangement. I found that in this arrangement the principle character scarcely changes by any stretch of the imagination, one could state that the character is totally apathetic all through the whole arrangement; not through Just one book, or section, yet all through the whole ascent he scarcely grows mentally as a character. I found that through this arrangement Drizzle changes areas, closet, weapons, and partners. Nonetheless, I found that he doesn't change what he battles for or why he battles; a portion of different characters In the books change, yet none so drastically to be contrasted with Beowulf. By watching the virtues In Beowulf society we find numerous saltcellars to our own arrangement of qualities. In any case, there are additionally some not really pay esteems found In this work, for example, the greatness and nature of cordiality appeared to Beowulf by Warthogs. This social worth is one that we don't stretch out to everybody that goes to our home, not at all like Harington we 00 not esteem now everybody reels tout us nor 00 we Tell committed to regard everybody as visitors. This shortage is Just one of the numerous things in todays society that has been corrupting since the hour of Beowulf and previously. The basic realities are that we don't feel that we can bear the cost of a similar sort of neighborliness and respect that Warthogs presents to his guests. We don't have the opportunity to thank somebody that comes to assist us with an issue, we have to recover the issue fixed and et to life. There are not very many of us that assume much the same as Warthogs. For instance, on the off chance that we are cordial to a circuit tester and help him in any capacity conceivable, perhaps get him a beverage or something, on the off chance that we ever need his administrations again I would wager that his fixes are more brief and his demeanor is better than if we had been mean or not interested in him the last time he needed to come fix something. It makes me imagine that Warthogs has some good judgment in acting thusly to Beowulf; this is Just one case of the ethical shortfalls we find when contrasting Beowulf society with our own. With everything taken into account, when contrasted with the characters in present day books I find that Beowulf is commonly better in many angles. He doesn't miss the mark with regards to moral choices, he accepts everything, and he isn't deficient in the dauntlessness division. His character is dynamic and changes all through the epic, that as well as his companions change alongside him, some for better and some in negative ways. I can't resist the opportunity to respect this epic in the entirety of its brilliance, in addition to the fact that it is an incredible story with a decent plot it has made due for longer than a centuries and right up 'til the present time never neglects to engage perusers. How might I think about some novel that isn't so much as thirty years of age to this epic, I don't anticipate that any cutting edge novel should be as incredible as Beowulf or to accomplish such a degree of acclaim and regard. If one somehow happened to ask me for what good reason, I would advise them to check with me in a thousand years and check whether they could locate their preferred novel from the present being concentrated in universities over the world. And still, after all that I question that it would be comparable to Beowulf nor so far as that is concerned some other works composed around that time. By and large the epic Beowulf has preferred character improvement over practically any advanced book that I have had the delight, or dismay, to peruse.

The Effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Essay - 550 Words
The Effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley (Research Paper Sample) Content: Article ReviewThe Effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002 on Corporate Governance and EthicsAuthors NameInstitutionThe Effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002 on Corporate Governance and EthicsThe Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002With intention to curb corporate scandals and to restore confidence in the corporate scene, Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in July 2002 after a series of high profile corporate scandals at Global Crossing, Enron, Tyco, and WorldCom to mention just a few. This legislation was supposed to increase accountability and transparency in corporate governance, particularly through enhanced financial audit. However, over a decade since its enactment, opinion is still divided concerning its efficacy (Drawbaugh Aubin, 2012). There have been many arguments for and against the stringent measures brought by this act, with some pundits arguing that it stifles corporate growth. This paper is a review of an article published in 2012, premised largely on the ethic al issues, and the efficacy of the criminal penalties that the Act spawned. Analysis: A Decade on, is Sarbanes-Oxley Working? The article by Kevin Drawbaugh and Dena Aubin was published on July 30, 2012, a decade after the Sarbanes-Oxley was signed into law by President George Bush on July 30, 2002. The article begins with a reminder of the notable corporations that had imploded in the recent past such as Peregrine Financial and the Lehman Brothers with the intent to juxtapose these instances with the prime objective of the Act-to increase financial supervision of companies in order to predict their position within a foreseeable future. The overall argument from the experts as expressed in this article is that for the most part, the Sarbanes-Oxley is working, having been able to enhance auditing and oversight to fend off book-cooking in the scale of Enron. There are some acknowledgments that the law has fallen short in some very significant way, though with experts arguing that going forward, the law may require amendments to settle some of these teething problems.Let the Truth be Told: Ethical Innovations brought by the Act That other states such as Canada, Germany, and Japan have enacted laws similar to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, can be construed to mean that the law is a necessity in corporate governance. The principal legacy of this law according to Randy Eaddy, a partner at Kilpatrick Townsend Stockton is that it has effected a cultural an attitudinal change in public companies which ideally makes it incumbent on the leading executives and directors to be more responsible when it comes to financial reporting (Maleske, 2012). The gains here basically mean that companies will not be able to hide their financial struggles in order to hoodwink the public that they are a going concern. Further, the rush by many companies to restate their past financial reports is in itself an attestation of the huge paradigm shift, ensuring that any public information about a com pany is credible and certified (Drawbaugh Aubin, 2012). Criminal Penalties: From Five Years to A Maximum of Twenty YearsBy any measure, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act provides for very serious penalties for executives who wil...

Throughout the course of a pregnancy, women are constantly told to provide a healthy and safe environment for their child to grow and develop within their womb. In the United States it is common knowledge to take prenatal vitamins, go see the doctor for checkups regularly, and to continue to eat healthy and work out while pregnant. However, not many people think that they themselves can provide a harmful environment for their fetus by experiencing certain emotions or stress. During these interviews the mothers were asked about health care use, breastfeeding duration, anxiety, and depression. Two scales were used in order to assess the participantââ¬â¢s anxiety and depression levels: State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Survey (EPDS). A score of forty or higher of the STAI and a score of twelve or higher of the EPDS indicated positive results (Paul, et al, 2013). At baseline during the postpartum hospital stay, the mean of the anxiety scores assessed using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) included 192 or 17.1% of the mothers participating in the study. This data concluded that a positive STAI was significantly higher compared to the data collected from the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Survey (EPDS) which displayed 42 or 3.7% of the subjects screened positive for depression (Paul, et al, 2013). The participantââ¬â¢s anxiety and depression levels were also affected by the delivery method, weight of the child, and becoming a mother for the first time. Understanding the Modern World
Question: Discuss about theUnderstanding the Modern World. Answer: Introduction The world has drastically changed since the occurrence of the two worldwide wars among the power mongering countries, which has gradually led to an era where from social life to economy, everything has turned to become technology oriented (Craib 2015). The present paper is attempting to make a valid comparison as well as contrast between societies those have gone through a rapid evolution from the year 1500 to 1800. More specifically, it is to say that the present essay is going to understand the contrast between Geoffrey Blaines account regarding life and society between the periods of 1500 to 1800 and the life and society of present times. As per Blaines narration jotted in the chapter called Dethroning the harvest, irrespective of any country most of the typical or common families between the timeline of 1500 to 1800 lived a life where there had been little chances for them to own a land of their own (Blainey 2003). Therefore, it has been understood that most of them suffered through an unfortunate life yet living in a productive year. The cause of such social distress as per Blaines vision and account has been the compulsion, which had led most of the inhabitants existing between this time line to work as a labor in the trade centers or in others farms to satisfy their very basic needs. It can be understood that the daily life of the common inhabitants has not been graceful. Moreover, it could be interpreted from the account of Blaine that lives of most of the common individuals have been to earn a full bowl of meal for daily survival in terms of satisfaction (Blainey 2003). In this regard, it is unfortunate to note that lives of most of people belonging to middle and lower middle class families of the developing countries have been found to be the same. In third world countries like India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and most of countries of Africa, people still now survive by working in others farms and struggles hard to acquire a minimum standard of living (Crone 2015). It can be comprehended from Blaines account that lives of people belonging to the timeline of 1500 to 1800 predominantly evolved around the activity of harvesting. Specifically, in the early 1500, one of the common choices of common people had been to scavenge and forage, while in the initial period of 1800, the society from the corner of south China Sea to the inland lakes of America the has encountered a substantial occupational change. In other words, the fruitful side of harvesting grains flooded the minds of most of the people of the world and irrespective of sex, lives of almo st every single inhabitant started to revolve around this distinct occupation (Blainey 2003). It is to contribute in this respect that probably in the current era, for most of the people belonging to the rural societies; it is possibly a hard to imagine a harvest-centric life (Giddens 2013). Hence, it is to say that the predominant difference between the lifestyle and socio-economic background of the modern time and the period of 1500 to 1800 is the occupation of harvesting grain has been isolated to the rural lives of most of the territories. In this respect, it should be considered that the reason behind this incongruity is possibly the monstrous emergence and advancement of the aspect of industrialization (Hatch and Cunliffe 2013). However, in the considered chapter of Blaine, it has been identified that the single aspect of harvesting grain triumphed over the food habits of most of the inhabitants. From using it to for making bread to prepare Gruel, grains has become almost an essential part of the daily live in the period of 1500-1800 (Belk 2016). On the other side, in the European land, breeding of Barley had been mainly done for preparing beer. Thus, it can be coherently perceived that consumption of alcohol had become a necessary aspect of daily diet specifically for the country of England. Even it has been narrated that the children of the contemporary society of England had been parts of the tradition of consuming alcohol at the dinner table (Blainey 2003). However, in the modern era there has been little evidence about the fact that children are taking active part in drinking alcohol along with their guardians at the time of meal. Nevertheless, it should be contemplated that the habit of alcohol consump tion in almost every developed countries has been probably drawn from the practice from this very old culture of brewing beer from Barley (Henslin et al. 2011). However, with the occupational culture of growing grains, there came a simple economic ambience, which is comprised of systems like Barter and use of gold coins. On the contrary, the modern community, which is growing with fast technical advancement and innovative occupational culture, has developed its economic orientation with the banking system. On the other hand, it has been understood that harvesting grains have also become an inevitable part of the religious practices. It is well understandable that in a society where the socio-economic dimension has been largely dominated by the culture of harvesting grains; the same aspect would highly determine the religious activities (Macionis and Plummer 2011). It has been noted from the chapter that this individual facet used to determine the premise of family planning. In the modern society, as per the observation, family planning is relatively personal and depends on the individuals of distinct families whereas the society of the pre-modern era used to be determined by the amount of harvested corp. It is interesting to note that the keeping cats for domestic purpose have been started from the sixteenth century when they are kept in home for catching mice. Here it is to say that the purpose of keeping cats in terms of having pets has been also related with grain harvesting, as cats are helpful in killing rats that largely produce damage on grains. This particular concept of keeping pets for domestic use is continuing in the modern era in form of growing poultries and animal firms. Therefore, it can be concluded that the main difference between the life and society of modern times and of the pre-modern era is, modern life has become more technology and industry centric whereas pre-modern society used to mainly evolve around harvesting corp.
